Sons And Lovers Trevor Howard and co. reminding us how grim it is up North.

Plot A Paul Morel (Stockwell) considers his own relationship with girlfriend Clara (Mary Ure), he struggles to understand that between his gentle mother (Hiller) and his rough, outwardly angry father (Howard). Verdict D.H. Lawrence has always proved a tricky test for filmmakers, but this is certainly one fo the better translations, thanks in no small part to the cinematography.
