Slap Her, She’s French

submit to reddit

Plot
A French exchange student makes life hard for the small-town American blonde beauty contest winner she’s staying with.

Review
“What on earth?” will be most people’s reaction to the title of this film, and watching it scarcely makes it much clearer.

Opening like a lightweight Drop Dead Gorgeous, it shows popular small-town blonde Starla (McGregor) winning the local beauty contest on the reluctant promise that she’ll take in a French exchange student.

Cue Piper Perabo (Coyote Ugly) as Genevieve, a beret-wearing extra from ‘Allo ‘Allo, all thick accent and stripy tops… until she decides she wants Starla’s glamorous life, and will do just about anything to get it.

Single White Female tactics follow, but the tone is so muddled and the characterisation so superficial, it’s hard to know whether you’re watching a thriller, a comedy or a teen romance. Its few amusing set-pieces could entertain older teen movie fans — if they’re feeling generous.
