Mr. Bean's Holiday

Plot
Rowan Atkinson's takes Britain's favourite scatterbrain on a trip to the Cannes Film Festival.

Review
Mr. Bean's Holiday
Browse more images »

Over the duration of this film, stretchy-faced simpleton Mr. Bean steals several items, smacks a security guard in the face and causes at least one fatality. But it’s easier to accept that the once loveable man-child is now a Natural Bean Killer than that he’s no longer funny. Rowan Atkinson mugs and gibbers away as usual as our hero crosses France on a mission to get to the beach, but where on TV he used to wring ten minutes’ worth of slapstick out of a single set, this sequel’s gag rate is absymally low.

It’s inspired by Mr. Hulot’s Holiday, but where Jacques Tati had the guts to bring beautifully calibrated silent comedy into the sound age, this is padded with lazy dialogue, a boring plot and Willem Dafoe.

Verdict
Almost disturbingly unfunny.

Out Of Date Bean

Mr Bean's notoriety is known worldwide. So much is this that he appeared in the Lindon 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony. But before this, his last major appearance was this: Mr Bean's Holiday. Now, let's be fair, he does have that strange elastic face to make us laugh but at times the already low texture plot drops and fails to get back up again. Willem Dafoe doesn't help this. His appearance as a director only mocks what potential he really has (Platoon; Spider-Man) and Rowan Atkinson begins t... More

2 stars - one for each time I laughed

Mr Bean is simply comic gold, the hilarious tv series and sensational first film set the bar sky high for this next installment of the Bean saga. A bar that this film falls far far below. I wanted to like it so badly but it simply was not that funny. The boring storyline leads to no where and I only laughed twice during the whole film, not nearly to the standard of British comedy champion Rowan Atkinson. The two laughs are the resteraunt scene (that could belong in the TV series) and the "o... More

Mr. Bean travels to France after winning a church raffle. On his journey to Cannes he encounters a host of colorful characters including a young boy who gets separated from his father and Willem Dafoe, who plays an egotistical filmmaker whose latest movie is premiering at the Cannes Film Festival. Although you mya seen it all before it is still funny enough and Rowan Atkinson is as good as always as the Bumbling Mr. Bean. Performances out of 5 Rowan Atkinson **** Willem Dafoe ***1/2 Emma de ... More

'mr. bean' fans will be disappointed.

it's filmed well but the jokes are too weak and far apart to make this anything special. the tv show was something special. genuine laughter...ingenious set-ups and brilliant physical comedy. this film seems like an art film mr bean happened to walk in on... ... More

RE:

Empire's review is incredibly harsh I would have expected a better review from them, seeing as they are one of the few mags that don't decide that this type of film will be crap before they see it. The film is a charming and amusing one, true it never hits the highs of the T.V material or indeed the last movie but its still a solid and worthwhile movie, and one which sends the charcter out on a high seeing as Atkinson has hinted this will be his last appearence. A Good 3/5 for this one. ... More

Bean

I expected this film to be a bit of a drag because of the feedback from the reviews but I actually found this film, quite pleasent to watch and in some scenes I was laughing out load. However in some parts the gags did seem a bit too much and like it was taking silliness to a whole new level of it's own-and not in a good way! And come on people Mr Bean kidnapps a child!!!!! Is it just me or is there something seriously wrong with that! ... More

To much recycling not enough laugh

Not as funny as i was expecting it to be, There were to many recycled jokes from the old tv series and the last film. However there are one or two jokes that did a least raise a chuckle from the pit of my stomach but not enough to give me a good laugh like i was expecting. Given it two stairs instead of one just because there was a bit of a laugh instead of non at all. ... More
