Adam Sandler is given a universal remote to his life.

Plot
A workaholic architect is given a universal remote that allows him to fast-forward and rewind to different parts of his life. Complications arise when the remote starts to overrule his choices.

Review

Steve Coren and Mark O’keefe, the writers who brought us Bruce Almighty (and its forthcoming sequel, Evan Almighty), are certainly mining the, “You think you can do better?” vein for every last nugget. This time around, God is left out of the equation, and their central themes are plundered from a much-loved film classic (we won’t tell you which one, lest we give too much away). But when the initial shock at their boldness wears off, the conceit works a charm.

Sandler, who has for years now been whittling down the rough edges of his angry-young-man SNL comedy persona and pouring more mainstream pathos into his characters — with varying degrees of success — seems to have finally matured into a comfortable and reasonably consistent leading man. On a roll from 50 First Dates and the more subtle Spanglish (leaving aside The Longest Yard for now), he’s grown out of the slacker roles and into everyman territory, which serves him well here as Click turns from a broad comedy into something else. The silly, shouty Sandler is reined in a little too tightly in the not-quite-funny-enough first half, but the reasons for that restraint become clear when the film takes an emotional turn for the dramatic later on.

The now familiar faces of the Sandler supporting troupe — Henry Winkler, Sean Astin, and a thankfully brief cameo from Rob Schneider — are joined by some well-cast newbies: Jennifer Coolidge, David Hasselhoff and Christopher Walken (being none more Walken), all of whom go for broke with the small roles they are given. Special mention, however, goes to Kate Beckinsale as Michael’s long-suffering wife. She does a terrific job of making a potentially generic role credible and vivacious — and, it has to be said, looks amazing in a Native-American headdress.

The Wedding Singer and Waterboy director Frank Coraci makes a good fist of the demanding, overfilled script: too many plot threads (a glimpse of Michael’s future in which he and his son are overweight feels, inevitably, flabby) begin to stall the story at a point where it should be moving swiftly to its conclusion. But happily, when that finale arrives, it’s an impressive enough moment to justify the wait.

Verdict
Another ‘nice’ Sandler comedy that works, thanks to some smart and genuinely moving ideas at its core. Still, amiable as it is, it could have been more streamlined. Less patient viewers will be wishing they could reach for the remote by the third act.

Click

Click is a brilliant comedy for the entire family to watch, Adam Sandler is outstanding in this film, and hit all emotions mostly laughter and few tears at the end. If only life was that simpler controlling it by a remote, unfortunately most men would be in charge of it ;-) ... More

Click

Adam Sandler is one of my favourite actors and this is a good film, but it gets a bit too serious. I mean there isn't anything funny about a heart attack. But it does have some good parts, especially Rob Schneider as prince Habibu. ... More

I've never hated Sandler more in my life.

I love Kate Beckinsale, Jennifer Coolidge and Christopher Walken. But really this was a piece of shit. I had faith in this movie and I thought it would be funny..i lauged once and I can't even remmber at what. Hasselhoff annoys me butI can tolerate him but here it was just wrong. I saw nothing good about this movie....you may think I am one of theimpacient viewers: you are wrong. I can sit through any 2001: a space odyssey's, there will be blood or anything long like that but I know it will be g... More

Very Good Family Film

This film is fun for the whole family to see with a brilliant plot including funny parts and sad parts especially the ending it is definately a must see. The cast includes Adam Sandler who stars as the main character and makes a very good job of it filling audiences with laughter like many of his films do and even David Hasselhoff, this film never gets boring to see. ... More

Pretty average by the numbers 'comedy'?

This film had such a sentimental edge to it by the final 3rd act, it wouldn't have surprised me to see Robin Williams pop up in it to add a bit more schmultz (this is the kinda film he'd have been in all the time in the 90's). Great idea for a ccomedy. poorly executed in a script that laid too heavy on the drama/family edge. If they'd have really let loose with this, it could've been really good. Disappointing - and I'm a Sandler fan. ... More

i must admit the appeal of adam sandler has escaped me in the past i have only seen one of his previous films wedding singer and wasnt very impressed truthfully it was the charms of kate b that tempted me to this filmplus the potential intersting concept. i know there are times when i wish i could fast forward my working day or relive a recent holiday but click also plays up the nigthtmarish aspects of the idea as well going throu... More

RE: much better than the trailer will have you believe

What a surprise this was. I went merely because I'd seen the Departed and World Trade Centre and the only other films showing were Open Season and Click, so we went with Click. Have to say this was far from what I expected from the film, from the trailer it looked like a silly idea that I imagined would have Sandler using the remote to his advantage to carry out a load of gross out comedy set pieces (Don't get me wrong it does have a couple of these moments and they are funny). But no, this ... More

much better than the trailer will have you believe

Click was funnier, smarter and ultimately a much better movie than i thought it would be. there is one scene that made me laugh out loud and thinking about it still makes me laugh (wont spoil it for u) I also enjoyed that in the 'serious' bits - they still managed to include some killer gags to remind u that this is a comedy. if anything, this film 'borrows' alot from other films...but who cares? i loved it. ... More

Finally saw the whole thing

Last week i found time to finally see it, i enjoyed it, but due to class i had to leave early. The teacher always arrives late, so this week i stuck with the film, and i am glad. This is Sandler's best acting job yet, it's really a moving film, i was almost in tears, me! and it's got some really funny moments, i think it has the potential as a Sandler turning point. ... More

There's a lot of Adam Sandler haters out there, but I've always enjoyed his films as entertaining if instantly forgettable. Click is no different, though it was far more touching than I expected. Sure it could have been trimmed by about ten minutes and does slow down a bit towards the end, but its never the less very watchable. Reminded me of It's A Wonderful Life actually! ... More

Click

I really did enjoy this film! It has everything that Adam Sandler fans (moi) hope for in one of his films: good acting, soppy moments and lots of humour! And this film deff delivers that! A nice heartfelt comedy which will make you laugh, cry and maybe want to eat a little less when you see Adam Sandler in the fat suite! However it loses a star as it seems a little slow in some places! ... More

RE: CLICK

i was dragged along to this at ten thirty last night and fully expected to hate it but it really wasnt that bad. i think its a strong concept, and if handled by a more capable filmmaker such as michel gondry it could have been amazing. of course the expected hollywood ending took a lot away from the film but it really wasnt bad. ... More
