Stay Alive
It turns out video games really are bad for your health.

Plot
When a group of teenagers begin to play an ultra-realistic videogame called Stay Alive they soon discover a spine-chilling connection -- they are each being brutally murdered one-by-one in the same method as the character they played in the game. As the line between the game world and the real world disappears, the group must find a way to Stay Alive.

The perils of excessive gaming are laid bare here as a group of friends (including alumni from The O. C. and One Tree Hill, as well as Frankie ‘Malcolm In The Middle’ Muniz) begin to suffer gruesome deaths soon after playing. But after a faintly creepy set-up, the scares soon evaporate, and what’s left is clumsy, cliché-ridden bunkum, the failings of which are exacerbated by neophyte direction.

With online games claiming more devotees every day, a film depicting what could happen if they ended more than just your social life should have raised some pertinent issues. But what could have been a satire on gaming sub-culture or a sharp dig at net-nannying parent groups is just a poor man’s Nightmare On Elm Street with joysticks.

Verdict
A cool idea rapidly falls apart. A completely missed opportunity.

fair ?

stay alive wasnt the best film but it also wasnt the worst! i do agree that it was a great idea gone to waste, with a director of Quinten Tarentino it wold have been perfection but unfortunaly he didn't direct it... it does lack in scares and shocks but it can be jumpy at times. in fairness, its the concept really. the only thing actually scary about this is the story, other than that its quiet mild... a poor film which had the potenchal to be something better, well at least with three stars! ... More

Good lord....

Picked this up second hand for £2. I've always had this theory, you see, that any DVD under a fiver, no matter how bad, is still always worth it just for pure entertainment value. This film proved that theory wrong. ... More

RE: A Geeky and Guilty Pleasure

I saw this by mistake, and thought it was ]. Nice premise, and at least one good actor. I jumped a few times, too. I'd put it on a par with Hillmovie, not the games - which are referenced throughoutverI was really disappointed that a spin-off game wasn't released. I even went looking for it after watching the film.hen again, that'd be a bit like releasing gpy video to buy...! ... More

A Geeky and Guilty Pleasure

I must say I very much enjoyed this. The scares are decent, the plot is intreguing and the general idea is somewhat pointless but original. The characters aren't that great but the over all feel of the film will leave you satisfied. Worth a watch at least. ... More
