White Noise

Plot
Jonathan Rivers mourns his wife’s unexplained death, he’s approached by a man claiming she’s made contact through the white noise of his TV set. Keaton quickly becomes obsessed and, by kitting out his house with E. V. P. gubbins, invites other, more ominous beings into his life

Review
Electronic Voice Phenomenon — the dead communicating with the living via broadcast equipment — provides White Noise with an unsettling conceit. As Michael Keaton mourns his wife’s unexplained death, he’s approached by a man claiming she’s made contact through the white noise of his TV set. Keaton quickly becomes obsessed and, by kitting out his house with E. V. P. gubbins, invites other, more ominous beings into his life.

The soundtrack and crackling static, contorting into mysterious moans, create a chilling mood, but the characters are so thin we never understand why Keaton would abandon his life for the paranormal. And once he does, he keeps falling into the film’s plot holes. How can someone receive communications from the living via E. V. P.? And why does it become a kidnap chase?

Average user rating for White Noise
Empire Star Rating

This film includes Michael Keaton as John Rivers looking through hours and hours of static video tape hoping for something. And as a viewer of the film, you'll probably feel the same way throughout the film. Despite its creepy set up with the idea of EVP (which has been relatively looked over by Hollywood), and at first Michael Keaton appears to be holding the film together. However, a terrible supporting cast (who looked as if they have been to the Over-Acting School Of Acting), and a stinky... More

RE: static

I agree with Merly. Although the first half is far better then the second. When he starts being able to see those that are about to die that is when it becomes a dud. ... More

RE: static

Not as bad an everyone says, had quite a bit of potential just never realised. A back story to the three shadows would have been nice. As for the reviews points: 1.) Keaton abandons his life for the paranormal because he wants to see his dead wife a bit more 2.) He is not recieving messages from the living via EVP, he is receiving messages about the future from his dead wife via EVP. 3.) And it turns into a kidnap story because the three shadows like to see people tortured. So they kid... More
