Underworld: Evolution
Vampires vs werewolves, round two. It's an allegory for class struggle, y'know.

Plot
Vampiric vixen Selene and werewolf-vamp hybrid Michael, both on the run, set out to stop the progenitors of both races from wiping out mankind.

Review
Underworld: Evolution

After the critical pounding suffered by Underworld, cynical viewers might suggest that writer/director Len Wiseman's marriage to his leading lady is the only reason we're now faced with a second yarn. Sewn onto the back of its predecessor by an unforgivably clumsy recap, this follow-up is a direct continuation that simply picks up where the first film’s story left off, with the death of Bill Nighy's camp count.

But for all her slinky, undead-chic looks, Beckinsale can't carry the film on curves alone and there's not much else here worthy of attention. Evolution's action sequences are as horribly bungled as its plot, resulting in a string of repetitive confrontations that feel toothless even by the last movie’s standards.

Verdict
Nuptial credentials notwithstanding, Wiseman's dream of an Underworld trilogy dies here – the open-ended coda evidence of badly misplaced optimism.

A visual and aural assault on the senses, this vampire-werewolf sequel makes a lot of noise and features a heavy-handed, overly convoluted story. ... More

Bad to the point of being hilarious. Nevertheless, like the first film it looks lovely as a psycho-granny's hand-knitted tea-cosy, and therefore deserves 2 stars. ... More

Most I've Laughed In Ages

I was casually watching this out the corner of my eye while playing Civilisation. Seemed repetetive and ridiculously plotted, all over the place in fact. However, the bit at the end where Kate stabbed a devil/vampyre thing through the head with his own wing then slammed him into helicopter blades was sooooooo ridiculous I burst out in a fit of hysterics. Then I started thinking about the script writers sitting around going "Man, that's gonna be awesome!" and I laughed some more. ... More

RE:

Oh come on, it wasn't that bad now was it? I mean, you almost got to see Kate naked, that alone is worth at least two stars Sure it wasn't great, but it never made me hate movies (unlike that godawful 'number 24' with Jim Carrey) a mildly entertaining way to pass an evening (if you really have no other options) ... More

This movie is worse than the first one, the action was short and slightly repeatative, it was baisically Selen shooting Marcus in the face, and the warewolf was so fake, the first looks like a Bafta winner compared to this. ... More

Unforgivable

The only film I have ever sat through that actually came very near to making me hate the very medium of cinema. The fact that so much money clearly went into what is a total train-wreck of a film incited feelings of revulsion, leaving me feeling ashamed that Hollywood can squander so much on such an insult when there are people dying in the world of starvation and poverty. Utterly charmless, without a single redeeming feature. Even giving it one star sickens me, but it's the only way I'll get to... More

RE:

I had no intent on rewatching the first after i left the cinema with friends maybe 4 years ago when it came out, possibly 5. It was so dull, and so shit, how on earth could the director   do worse? beats me becuase the second was utter utter drivel. i could have fell asleep watching it.   It still makes me wonder what Fox saw in Wiseman to employ him to direct Die Hard- he can do violence but even that is eye gougingly bad, and his skills as a director, for films like ... More

I dont get the Problem.....

I myself am a fan of the underworld films. Yes their a guilty pleasure. I realise they are by no means well made films but they cant all be bad. I mean it has a great leading lady some good direction and the aaction is enjoyable enough, so why doesnt everyone loosen up and just take it with a pinch of salt, at least its not Ultraviolet, which is complete Shite. ... More

RE: Not bad...

Watched it last last night and was pleasantly surprised I have to admit. Beckinsale's really hot, but a bit bland, Speedman made a somewhat unengaging male lead, looks good too though, and can anyone tell me what exactly was Derek Jacobi? Vamp, Werewolf or something else. What redeemed this movie for me was Marcus, what a badass, and the action and fighting, you could not ask for more gore! Pure Saturday night tosh, but entertaining all the same. ... More

Not bad...

Rented this recently to find out if I should actually buy it. Didnt enjoy it enough to want to add it to my DVD collection but it was definatly worth a watch. The story and plot line were, like its predecessor, lacking in anything spectacular with some very obvious and cliched moments. However I thought the action and special effects were good throughout and it was enough to keep me entertained. A worthy sequel deserving more than one star. If this gets one star more recent so called action film... More

RE: Useless

Underworld Evolution - 4/5 So you got people on here telling me this film is bad. So I buy it on DVD, ya know, and I watch it and it kicks my ass. Like seriously, kicks my ass. The first Underworld created this really awesome mythology but wasn't "fun." For a film centered around the rucking between Vampires and Werewolves, there just wasn't enough rucking. The story, despite being interesting, wasn't handled in an interesting way. I'd probably give that film a 3/5, purely coz of the idea... More

Muddled and dull. I was entertained twice during the enitre thing, both in action moments, both only for an instant. Inpressive CGI is one thing, but if it isn't backed up with a coherant story, I don't care. I was bored. ... More
