Viggo Mortensen is a man known for throwing himself into activities for roles. Now he's looking to do the same behind the camera too, setting up his directorial debut, Falling.

Mortensen wrote the script and will also take one of the lead roles in the film. Mortensen will be John Petersen, who lives with his partner Eric and their adopted daughter Monica in Southern California. His father Willis (Lance Henriksen) is a farmer whose attitudes and behavior belong to a more traditional era and family model. When Willis travels to Los Angeles for an indefinite stay with John’s family in order to search for a place to retire, the two different worlds collide.

HanWay Films is backing the film, and distribution rights will be on sale at next month's American Film Market. Mortensen will next be seen in Green Book, which will be out in the UK on 1 February next year.
