Early Man

By this point, we know what to expect from the Aardman Animation team: some great knockabout gags, characters you can root for and some top-notch stop-motion work. All appear to be present and correct in the latest from Nick Park, Early Man, as evidenced by the new trailer.

The story finds caveman Dug (Eddie Redmayne) leaving a happy, if routine life with his Stone Age tribe (including Richard Ayoade's Treebor, Timothy Spall's Chief Bobnar and Mark Williams' Barry). But then their world of hunting, laughing and swapping underwear (not recommended) is thrown into chaos by the arrival of some newcomers.

Led by Lord Nooth (Tom Hiddleston, going full 'Allo Allo with the accent), these Bronze Age interlopers are more developed than our heroes, and are looking to take over their valley. Things look grim for the Stone Age types until a wager is hammered out over, of all things, football. Can Dug save his tribe?

The likes of Johnny Vegas, Maisie Williams and Gina Yashere also lend their pipes to the film, due here on 26 January.
