While the Top Gun sequel has already added a few people to the cast surrounding Tom Cruise, the floodgates have opened for the movie. Thomasin McKenzie, Charles Parnell, Jay Ellis, Bashir Salahuddin, Danny Ramirez and Monica Barbaro are now on board.
Cruise is returning to his iconic role of ace pilot Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, now an instructor guiding young flyers in an age where drone warfare is replacing the use of crewed aircraft. Val Kilmer is back as his old rival, Tom "Iceman" Kazansky, while Jennifer Connelly is a new face for the franchise, playing a bar owner who lives near the Naval base and Miles Teller is the son of Maverick's late co-pilot, Goose.
McKenzie is playing Connelly's daughter, while Parnell will be an admiral. Ellis is on to be one of the young Top Gun pilots, with Salahuddin as an engineer. Ramirez and Barbaro are fellow flyers, with the latter also taking a liking to Teller's character.
Joseph Kosinski's in the director's chair, with a script that has seen work by Peter Craig, Justin Marks and Eric Warren Singer. Whether or not it ends up called Top Gun: Maverick, the movie should touch down on 12 July next year.
