It’s been a few years since Sylvester Stallone provided a voice performance for a film (that would be 2011’s Zookeeper) and even longer since he was part of a CG ‘toon (you have to go back to 1998’s Antz for that). But now he has not one but two new animated adventures in the works, since he’s signed on to play a character in Ratchet & Clank alongside Paul Giamatti, John Goodman, Bella Thorne and Rosario Dawson{ =nofollow}.

Announced back in 2013 with some hullabaloo, and taking aim at a release just a couple of months from now, the film adapts the PlayStation game series and also features the voice cast from the console title including James Arnold Taylor as Ratchet, David Kaye as Clank, Armin Shimerman as Nefarious and Jim Ward as Captain Qwark.

The story finds Ratchet, a “lombox”, or cat-like creature, and his robot pal Clank, who have to stop a vile alien named Chairman Drek from destroying every planet in the Solana galaxy. When the duo stumbles upon a dangerous weapon capable of destroying entire planets, they must join forces with a team a group called The Galactic Rangers in order to save the galaxy.

TMNT man Kevin Munroe is co-directing the film with Jericca Cleland, with Munroe taking a pass at the script originated by Insomniac Games writer T. J. Fixman. It’s scheduled for release on July 17, but has yet to release anything by way of promotional material beyond the teaser trailer you can watch below. As for Sly’s other animated outing? That would be Animal Crackers, due out next year.
