Awards season is about to kick into high gear, and as the film festivals showcase the sort of movies that take square aim at Oscars and more, one strong contender, Beautiful Boy, has a new trailer online. See the powerhouse combo of Steve Carell, Timothée Chalamet and Amy Ryan below.

Written by director Felix Van Groeningen and Lion filmmaker Luke Davies, the film actually blends David Sheff's book Beautiful Boy: A Father's Journey Through His Son's Addiction and his son Nic's Tweak: Growing Up On Methamphetamines. It's the painful, yet hopeful story of David as he reconciles the close relationship he had with his son when he was younger with the struggles of the older Nic, who has dived into addiction to various substances.

The positive buzz on this one is strong, with praise for the leads and a supporting cast that also includes Maura Tierney, Christian Convery and Kaitlyn Dever. Beautiful Boy arrives for US audiences on 12 October, but UK cinemagoers will have to show the usual awards season patience, as it doesn't land on these shores until 18 January.
