Shia LaBeouf Won’t Return For Indiana Jones 5

Shia LaBeouf as Mutt Williams

We like to joke around these parts about the non-existence of Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull. But we're forced to acknowledge the reality of the film, albeit briefly, to bring word that one of the disappointments of the 2008 movie, Shia LaBeouf as Indy's son, Mutt Williams, won't crop up in the next film, still in development.

Talking with Entertainment Weekly, writer David Koepp has offered an update on the new movie's status. "Harrison plays Indiana Jones, that I can certainly say," he tells the magazine's site. "And the Shia LaBeouf character is not in the film."

"We’re plugging away at it. In terms of when we would start, I think that’s up to Mr. Spielberg and Mr. Ford," he continues. "I know we’ve got a script we’re mostly happy with. Work will be endless, of course, and ongoing, and Steven just finished shooting The Post. If the stars align, hopefully it’ll be his next film."

Expect Indy and whoever tags along to be hunting the usual macguffin artifact, but beyond that, details are scarce. Still, the idea that Mutt will be off dangling from a vine over a giant ravine or otherwise occupied, is a comforting one.
