Do you want to watch an indie drama based on Shia LaBeouf's childhood and difficult relationship with his father? He thinks you do, and has Lucas Hedges ready to star with him in Honey Boy.

Taking its title from LaBeouf's own father's nickname for him as a child, the film has Alma Har’el in the director's chair and LaBeouf on script duty/playing the character based on his father. It'll chronicle the tough childhood and even tougher twenty-something life of one Otis Lort. A rising star on TV at the age of 12, his life revolves around his ex-con father James, who also happens to be a recovering drug addict. While he has charisma to spare, he's not much of dad.

The story will then catch up with Otis at 22 (played by Hedges), who is now a trainwreck himself. Unemployable in the film industry thanks to his bad behaviour, he's diagnosed with childhood PTSD. And then James comes back into his life.

Har'el will start the cameras rolling this May in Los Angeles.
