Sensing that he might find a receptive crowd, Seth Rogen brought Sausage Party to Comic-Con, participating in a conversation at a venue away from the Convention Centre and then hosting a screening. While only a select few got to watch the movie, a new NSFW trailer is online for everyone to see.

In the universe of Sausage Party, food products of all kinds are self-aware and spend their days in the supermarket dreaming of when they might be picked by "gods" – humans – to join with them in eternity. It's only when they're purchased and reach our homes that they realise the horrific reality behind their religion: they're doomed to be sliced, peeled, boiled and otherwise consumed.

Our hero here is a hot dog sausage called Frank (Rogen) who learns the truth and then sets out to warn his friends. He and co-producer Evan Goldberg have recruited many of their friends to lend their voices, including James Franco, Kristen Wiig, Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, Bill Hader and Paul Rudd.

Expect swearing, human on food violence and sexual references, particularly between hot dog buns and sausages. Sausage Party will grace our screens from September 2.
