Ron Perlman and Christopher Plummer voicing H.P. Lovecraft animation

Ron Perlman and Christopher Plummer

When you think of H.P. Lovecraft, you probably picture tentacled eldritch horrors lurking in other dimensions. But what about something for, you know, kids? A new animated film, Howard Lovecraft And The Frozen Kingdom is planning to introduce a new generation to his work, and Ron Perlman and Christopher Plummer are aboard to provide voices.

So what is this all about? It's an adaptation of Bruce Brown's graphic novel, which follows a young Howard on an adventure. The plot takes elements of Lovecraft's actual childhood, including his father's nervous breakdown, and uses them to introduce new audiences to tropes in the writer's work. Howard goes through a portal to another universe, where a mysterious book holds the key to freeing a society of children from an evil power that has encased them in a frozen, hostile world. Our hero takes on the quest with the help a giant squid, facing danger and finding many of his assumptions are false.

Perlman, used to conjuring hellish beasties to the screen, will be Shoggoth, while Plummer will be Dr. Herbert West. Sean Patrick O'Reilly is working on this one and it should be on screens later this year.
