With Orson Welles' last film, The Other Side Of The Wind, completed by others and headed to screens big and small via Netflix, it somehow seems fitting that the documentary about the troubled making of the movie, and Welles' final years, should also hit the streaming service. See the trailer for They'll Love Me When I'm Dead below.

Oscar-winning documentarian Morgan Neville (who made 20 Feet From Stardom and is behind excellent Mr. Rogers film Won't You Be My Neighbor?) directed and produced this one, which tells the provocative story of the legendary filmmaker during the final 15 years of his life.

Long out of favour despite his previous accomplishments, Welles struggled to make a Hollywood comeback with one last radical gamble. For years, Welles toiled on The Other Side Of The Wind, about an aging film director trying to finish his last great movie. Welles shot the picture guerrilla-style in chaotic circumstances with a devoted crew of young dreamers, all while struggling with financiers and fate. In 1985, Welles died, leaving as his final testament the most famous unfinished movie in film history.

The negative stayed in a vault for decades – until now. With revelatory new insights from Welles collaborators including Peter Bogdanovich, Frank Marshall, Oja Kodar and daughter Beatrice Welles, They’ll Love Me When I’m Dead is the untold final chapter of one of the greatest careers in film history: brilliant, innovative, defiant and unbowed. It'll launch on Netflix and in limited cinema release on 2 November, the same day as The Other Side Of The Wind. Double bill!
