A few months ago, word arrived that Nicole Kidman was considering starring in Karyn Kusama's next planned movie, crime pic Destroyer. The talks and now the negotiations have clearly gone well, as Kidman is confirmed to take the lead role.

While plot specifics were hard to come by when it was first mooted, now we know what the script, written by Kusama's The Invitation collaborators Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi is actually about.

Kidman will play LAPD detective Erin Bell who, earlier in her career, was placed undercover with a cult-like gang in the California desert. The case ended in tragedy, but when the leader of the gang remerges on to law enforcement's radar years later, she has to work her way through the surviving members to track them down, confronting the demons of her own past.

Kusama is hoping to start the cameras rolling soon. Kidman, meanwhile, will next be seen in Yorgos Lanthimos' The Killing Of A Sacred Deer, which will be released in the UK on 3 November.
