Eschewing the direct sequel route, and choosing instead to set a new story in the same world with Josh Brolin, Benicio Del Toro and a sprinkling of other characters returning, the follow-up to Sicario, known here as Sicario 2: Soldado, is on its way. The new trailer has just arrived.

Scripted once again by Taylor Sheridan, with Stefano Sollima taking over directorial duties, Soldado tells the tale of the team taking on a drug cartel that has been transporting terrorists from Mexico to the States. US government officials want Brolin's morally grey CIA agent Matt Grover to handle it by any means necessary, which leads him in turn to reach out again to unpredictable gun-for-hire Alejandro Gillick (Del Toro).

Complications occur when the latter kidnaps the stubborn daughter (Isabela Moner) of the cartel leader and finds himself feeling protective of her, especially when the Americans decide she's too dangerous to have around. A hint of a Logan-style story, then, in a film that also explores Alejandro's violent past.

The movie will be out in the UK and US on 29 June.
