Readers of a certain age will remember the dramatic Iranian Embassy siege of 1980, which saw six armed men storm the diplomatic building in south Kensington and take 26 people hostage. The eventual SAS raid was broadcast live on British television. (Incidentally, it also remains Alan Partridge’s favourite siege.) Aside from the loosely-based Who Dares Wins, the event has never been adapted for film – until now, with the Jamie Bell–starring 6 Days. Here’s the first trailer.
Shot on location in the West London area near the actual embassy, the film follows three perspectives – that of hostage negotiatior Max Vernon (Mark Strong), BBC news reporter Kate Adie (Abbie Cornish), and SAS assault team leader Rusty Firmin ( Bell).
Glenn Standring has written the script after interviewing a number of the participants involved, with Toa Fraser (Dean Spanley) in the director’s chair. 6 Days arrives in UK cinemas 4 August.
