Everybody needs good neighbours but they’re looking pretty thin on the ground in the new trailer for The Girl On The Train. The adaptation of Paula Hawkins thriller has gone with a _Gone Girl_ish vibe as it looks to build buzz for its October release. Here it’s The Equalizer’s Haley Bennett who's the gone girl after something goes very bad in suburban New York.

The novel's location has shifted from London’s commuter belt to New York State, but its troubled, heartbroken protagonist, Rachel (Emily Blunt) remains our guide through a world of fence-peeping, jealousy and half-buried secrets. It’s not David Fincher behind this one but The Help’s Tate Taylor, looking like he's dipped into the Presumed Innocent handbook of thriller touchstones. There are plenty of white picket fences but very few untarnished souls among its cast of suburbanites.

The cast features Justin Theroux as Tom, Rachel’s ex, and Rebecca Ferguson as his new wife. Luke Evans, Édgar Ramírez and Allison Janney offer strong support.

The Girl On The Train lands in UK cinemas on October 7.
