The future of the Terminator franchise seemed less than certain last year after the disappointing box office takings of Genisys, which was at one point touted as kicking off a new trilogy. But though there has been talk of a "re-adjustment", it looks like any future film won't include Emilia Clarke.
Out promoting the sixth Game Of Thrones season, which kicks off this weekend, Clarke was asked by Coming Soon whether she'll be returning as Sarah Connor. “No,” she says succinctly. “Can I say that? It’s okay. No. Uh-uh. But I have some very different roles coming up.”
Despite staking out a May 2017 date even before Genisys arrived, the sequel was unceremoniously removed from its slot in the US early this year. And there have been no announcements yet about a replacement or what the coming years might hold for the franchise. Skydance Pictures has an option on the rights to make more films until 2019, when they're supposed to revert to James Cameron, and the cyborgs will likely be sitting in a corner while he makes Avatar sequels for the next 70 or so years.
As for Clarke, she'll be back as Daenerys Targaryen on Thrones, which starts on HBO Sunday evening (with a simulcast on Sky Atlantic followed a rebroadcast on Monday evening). She's also starring in romantic comedy Me Before You, which is out in cinemas on June 3.
