Clearly showing no signs of slowing down at 86, Clint Eastwood has signed on to direct Impossible Odds, with Brian Helgeland penning the script. His third semi-biopic on the trot after American Sniper and Sully, this next project will focus on Jessica Buchanan, an American aid worker kidnapped by Somali land pirates back in 2011.

Eastwood and Helgeland are adapting the film from Buchanan’s memoir about the 93-day ordeal, where Buchanan and another hostage lived in the desert as her husband attempted to have her brought home. After his tense, resolute direction on American Sniper, it’s easy to imagine this being a taut retelling of SEAL Team 6’s attempt to remove the hostages. Or will the director instead choose to focus on the survival instincts of the pair caught up in the middle of it all?

Eastwood’s next film, Sully (currently soaring at the US box office), will be seen in the UK on 2 December.
