Now that Hell Or High Water's director David Mackenzie has roped in that film's star Chris Pine to play Scottish icon Robert The Bruce in Outlaw King, he's been looking to bulk up the cast list. Mackenzie has now added Lady Macbeth's Florence Pugh.

While the Scottish king has appeared in various films including Braveheart, Mackenzie is looking to restore some of his dignity, helping to win Scotland's freedom from the oppressive rule of England (some very topical themes here). Mackenzie wrote the original draft of the script, and has Pine ready to play the king. At one point, High Water's Ben Foster was in talks to play James Douglas, a Scottish knight who ends up becoming one of his chief advisors, but the role went to Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

Deadline's report doesn't specify who Pugh will be playing, but it seems likely that she could be one of his two wives. With Bash Doran providing the latest draft of the screenplay, the period drama should be shooting soon.

Pugh will be seen in wrestling biopic Fighting With My Family and is also part of the cast for new Liam Neeson action thriller The Commuter.
