While we doubt anyone could truly compete with the likes of Big Bird, Oscar and Grover for the star status on Sesame Street, the movie version of the series is looking to book a big name. Anne Hathaway is top of the wishlist for the film, according to Collider.

Little is known about the plot for this one, but the current script comes from Chris Galetta and Portlandia veteran Jonathan Krisel is attached to direct what will be a fairly musical film (given the usual amount of tunes in an average episode) for Warner Bros. and MGM.

Collider has learned that Hathaway's circling the role of a young woman named Sally, which has a tie to the series itself, as that's the name of a character in the very first episode who gets a tour of the Street, meeting the various residents both muppet and human. And the actress has even appeared on the show, acting and singing in its 2007 holiday special Elmo's Christmas Countdown. There's no deal in place just yet, though.

In more concrete Hathaway big screen news, she'll show up in new thriller Serenity (out 1 March) and comedy remake The Hustle, which arrives on 10 May.
