With the success of Gone Girl, there has been a scramble to adapt other books by Gillian Flynn for different mediums, with mixed results. Sharp Objects has been in development limbo for a while, but got a boost last year when Amy Adams agreed to star. Now Patricia Clarkson is joining her in the cast.

Buffy veteranMarti Noxon will run the show, with Flynn herself also contributing scripts. Sharp Objects, which hit bookshelves in 2006, follows reporter Camille Preaker (Adams), who has just spent time in a psychiatric hospital. Her first assignment upon her return to work is not exactly a soft one to ease her back into a routine – she’s dispatched to her tiny hometown to dig into the murders of two pre-teen girls.

Working out of her old bedroom, and confronting her issues with her mother and half-sister, Camille will have to unravel her own dark secrets to have a chance at cracking the case, and surviving it... Clarkson is playing her high society mother Adora Crellin, a woman dealing with the death of her oldest daughter years ago and feverishly clinging to her youngest, Amma. Camille's return throws Adora's sobriety and sanity into chaos.

Dallas Buyers Club's Jean-Marc Vallee is aboard to direct at least one of the eight planned episodes and is also co-editing the drama series.
