Alfie Allen has played characters who have endured rotten fortunes on screen. We don't think he's setting up to change that, joining Taika Waititi's Jojo Rabbit to portray a Nazi.

The film is based on Christine Leunens’ novel Caging Skies, and sees its Hitler Youth protagonist (Roman Griffin Davis) discover that his mother (Scarlett Johansson) is harbouring a Jewish girl (Thomasin McKenzie) in their house, with Waititi himself playing Jojo's imaginary friend, a version of Hitler.

Allen will be Finkel, the second-in-command to Klenzendorf (Sam Rockwell), the captain of the youth camp that Jojo attends.

In other Allen news, he's also going to be part of the cast for the Caitlin Moran adaptation How To Build A Girl. Coky Gideroyc is directing the film, which finds Lady Bird's Beanie Feldstein as Johanna Morrigan, an opinionated, overweight teen girl who re-invents herself as music critic Dolly Wilde. Allen's aboard to play John Kite, a rock star who is one of the people she interviews.

Before either of those, Allen's run of on-screen bad luck continues, as he's one of the troops who encounters lethal alien killers in The Predator, due out on 13 September.
