10 Egregious Oscar Snubs

Even though the Academy of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences spread its net wider this year (in the Best Picture race, at least), there were still the usual group of films, performers and other creative types cruelly shut out. Here are a few of our most glaring holes in the ballot...

Actor In A Leading Role
Sam Rockwell, Moon / Sharlto Copley, District 9

Oh, pity the actor who happens to excel in a science-fiction film. Moon director Duncan Jones lobbied hard to nab a nom for Sam Rockwell, but despite a fierce grassroots campaign, the actor was still left out. Which is a crime, since he easily delivered one (or possibly two) of the best performances of the year in that film. Do Jones, Rockwell and yourself a favour: if you've yet to enjoy the film, buy it/rent it now! Also lacking was a nod for District 9's Sharlto Copley, who brought tragedy and comedy to life in one solid (largely improvised) package as Wikus Van De Merwe. The film got nominated, but Copley deserved to at least be considered. We predict he'll get his shot in the future.
