| Josh Brolin, Milk |

WHY HE WILL WIN In the last two years, Josh Brolin has shaped an exceptional and refined career with acclaimed performances in W and last year's Oscar favourite No Country For Old Men, as well as this subtle and affecting turn in Milk.

WHY HE WON'T WIN This is his first Oscar nomination, and most would favour Sean Penn if someone is going to win an acting gong for Milk. Brolin has also been relatively unaccustomed to serious starring roles until last year - preferring gung-ho fluff like Planet Terror and Hollow Man. Also, he was perhaps nominated for the wrong film: he's better in W. Then there's the Ledger factor.
