WHY SHE WILL WIN In recent years the Best Actress award has been used to appoint up-and-coming actresses to the A-list, and Hathaway certainly fits into the Gwyneth / Reese / Halle mold. It's also a great, layered performance, in which she both breaks with her norm and acts ugly, both of which the Academy loves.

WHY SHE WON'T WIN Kym is a very broken girl, and the Academy like to pick out the characters with more discernable redemptive qualities. Plus it's still early days, career-wise, for Anne, and like Kate Winslet before her, she may go through many nominations before picking up the gongs.
