The Coen Brothers lead the charge last night at the 80th Academy Awards, topping the lists with four wins for No Country For Old Men, including Best Director(s), Best Film, Best Supporting Actor for Javier Bardem and Best Adapted Screenplay. Coming in second was not There WIll Be Blood or Atonement but rather The Bourne Ultimatum, which sneaked in with a trio of technical awards for Editing, Sound Mixing and Sound Editing.

PT Anderson's effort didn't go unrewarded though, taking cinematography, while Daniel Day Lewis surprised precisely no one by bagging Best Actor. Marion Cotillard did raise a few eyebrows, edging out favourite Cate Blanchett and snatching Best Actress for La Vie En Rose, while Tilda Swinton managed a similarly unexpected winwith Best Supporting Actress for Michael Clayton.

Religious leaders let out a collective sigh of relief as Norbit lost out on Best Make-Up, having declared that such an event would usher in the last days and form the final sign of the apocalypse.

Oscars = pile of shit as usual!!
I can't wait for a year when the oscars aren't spoiled by politics and senile old folk that wouldn't know a decent film if it hit them on the head with a spade. For crap like Juno and Micheal Clayton to be in the front running for several oscars proves the point.... and for Golden Compass to win best visual effects??? Please! Was this for comedy value??? ... Read More

When will the oscars give some credit to those who risk there lives for our entertainment. Casino Royales stunt work on the crains was done for real which is incredible and the stunts in other films such as die hard 4 was also really good. ... Read More

L: Frank Castle Does anyone know why brad renfro was left off the passed away this year list?? m not sure, we were talking about this in the live chat thing as it happened live. maybe they deemed him not worthy/relevent enough? does that happen? maybe it was a busy year and they had to pick and choose who they remember, or perhaps the academy take a hard line when it comes to irresponsible deaths? i thought it was really strange. ... Read More

L: markymark123 Hey if you like it that is cool, I just mean that the low viewing figures might suggest the films chosen are at odds with audiences. he oscars are not about recognising whats popular with an audience, theyre about honoring the great examples of the medium. it doesnt matter if 1 person or 1 billion people have seen the film, if that were the case then spider-man3 and high school musical would be the big winners this year. its beyond me that so many people dont actually... Read More
