The Coen Brothers lead the charge last night at the 80th Academy Awards, topping the lists with four wins for No Country For Old Men, including Best Director(s), Best Film, Best Supporting Actor for Javier Bardem and Best Adapted Screenplay. Coming in second was not There WIll Be Blood or Atonement but rather The Bourne Ultimatum, which sneaked in with a trio of technical awards for Editing, Sound Mixing and Sound Editing.

PT Anderson's effort didn't go unrewarded though, taking cinematography, while Daniel Day Lewis surprised precisely no one by bagging Best Actor. Marion Cotillard did raise a few eyebrows, edging out favourite Cate Blanchett and snatching Best Actress for La Vie En Rose, while Tilda Swinton managed a similarly unexpected winwith Best Supporting Actress for Michael Clayton.

Religious leaders let out a collective sigh of relief as Norbit lost out on Best Make-Up, having declared that such an event would usher in the last days and form the final sign of the apocalypse.

L: CORLEONE Cheers Scruffybobby, you made my day. mine.   It's going to be going back to an old school way of making an action film. It wouldn't work if they made it like they make action films today. It wouldn't be an Indiana Jones film. I remember reading Lucas himself was worried over people expecting "the second coming" when all it is is another Indiana Jones adventure.   It's going to be great fun just like the others. I'm confident in that. ... Read More

Cheers Scruffybobby, you made my day.   Back on topic, I'm encouraged by the fairly uninspiring trailers. It means that there's loads of shots that Spielberg's keeping up his sleeve. Also, I'm sure Spielberg's films never get many preview screenings. Everyone was worried that War of the Worlds was a turkey because no-one reviewed it up until about 2 days before release, and while it was no classic, it certainly wasn't shit.   I predict 4 stars across the board (although that w... Read More

Once again my avatar drags a thread off topic..  just type  "Reon Kadena ipod" into youtube and enjoy.   Back on topic there's 2 reviews on IMDB by people who have claimed to see the film early and they are both very positive.  The only thing to do is see the film yourself and fuck what anyone else thinks. That's what the majority of the public are goung to do anyway. I doubt your average punter has ever heard of aintitcool let alone cares what they think about anyt... Read More

What gets me about all this is that it's now being reported in newspapers (it was in the sodding Metro today) and the only quotes pulled are from the 2 - that's right, 2 - negative reviews and no one is even mentioning the 2 positive reviews. It's an even split right now and it would be just as easy to spin an article about how Indy is being well received as it is to write on saying how it's being slammed. Jesus, the Metro caption to the photo was that the film is a flop! Based on quotes pulled... Read More

2009: a true story
This is probably old news that i've stumbled across later than everyone else, but what is exactly is '2009: a true story'? I've watched all the online episodes so far, and i'm presuming its meant to get us excited for some cloverfield-style new film, but it could easily be a taster for a tv series or just a short online series in itself (in which case i apologise for putting this entry into this movie news forum). I'm not hugely impressed by the look of it, but its an interesting idea.
