Cumberbatch Heads For Crimson Peak
Sherlock gets scary

Star Trek Into Darkness

Team Sherlock managed to wrangle Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman back to shoot the third set of episodes, and Holmes himself has said that they’ll return for the fourth. But both men are ever in demand, with Cumberbatch headed to Guillermo del Toro’s Crimson Peak.

The endlessly effusive (and endlessly busy) del Toro is planning Peak as his follow-up to monster mash Pacific Rim (out here on July 12). The haunted house thriller is still largely under wraps, but we do know that Cumberbatch will be starring alongside Charlie Hunnam and Emma Stone in the film, which represents del Toro’s nod to movies such as The Haunting.

Cameras are set to crank on the film in February next year, with del Toro already at work alongside Lucinda Coxon on a rewrite of the script he originally crafted with Matthew Robbins.

Cumberbatch, meanwhile, will rarely be off our screens in the coming year, between playing the villain in Star Trek Into Darkness (May 9) and voice/performance capture work in The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug (December 13) plus the third Middle-earth pic, There And Back Again due December 19, 2014. But that’s just the tip of the Cumberberg. He’s also been busy shooting Julian Assange pic The Fifth Estate and those new Sherlock episodes should be with us either later this year or early next. Then we have August: Osage County and Steve McQueen’s Twelve Years A Slave, neither of which boast UK release dates yet. Apologies if the phrase “tip of the Cumberberg” made anyone faint.

Versatile actor
I hope this doesnt push back his Brian Epstein bio pic. I really want to see him play that role with Paul McGuigan directing. The script is meant to be great. He only has tiny roles in Twelve years a Slave and August Osage county (more's the pity) but at least the Osage role is a cute one. I hope we get more of him as the Necromancer because a lot of people didnt even know it was him in the first Hobbit film as it was only seconds. I hope his role in Crimson Peak is the Byronesque one More

That's a big schedule Cumberbatch's got!
Cumberbatch has already proven to be one of the best on-screen incarnation of Sherlock Holmes (sorry Downey Jr., but you're far better at playing Iron Man), and I really do hope he will steal the show with STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS. I'm also looking forward to see how he does as Smaug the Dragon (both voice-action and motion-capture) in THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG, which I pray will be superior to the slightly underwhelming AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY. I hope CRIMSON PEAK will be a stand-out More
