New After Earth Poster Lands
Will Smith and son get serious

06 March 2013  |  Written by Phil de Semlyen  |  Source: Coming Soon

Destroyed Earth movies are flavour of the year - check out Empire's giant 2013 preview for evidence - but After Earth stands alone as the only one that doubles up as a handy father-son bonding exercise. Coming Soon has a new poster with the sci-fi's dad (Will Smith) and junior (Jaden Smith) getting the close-up treatment.

A sort of post-apocalyptic Croods, the Raiges, Kitai (Jaden) and his famed father Cypher (Will), are stranded on a desolate Earth, 1000 years after a fatal cataclysm had reduced the place to rubble. The plane crash that brought them there has left dad injured though, and Kitai is forced to embark on a dangerous mission to find help through the perilous landscape.

The double Smithing should make the father-and-son chemisty a cinch, but eyes will also be on director M. Night Shyamalan, who could use a hit after the disappointment of The Last Airbender and The Happening. He's definitely tapping the sci-fi zeitgeist with this one.

As the poster man say, After Earth is out on June 7.
