Michael Bay Talks Transformers 4
It's not a reboot

04 February 2013  |  Written by Phil de Semlyen  |  Source: Forbes

Transformers: Dark of the Moon

With nearly a gadjillion dollars banked in cinemas alone, the Transformers franchise show no signs of slowing down. Tech-auteur Michael Bay, a force of nature even in his quieter moments, is turning his thoughts to a fourth instalment that, he promises, will "start off smaller".

Speaking pre-Superbowl with Forbes magazine, Bay revealed that Transformers 4 will be set a few years after the end of the third one - presumably to give them time to rebuild Chicago. So, asked Forbes, a reboot? "No, that’s wrong," replied Bay. "We keep the Transformers the way they were, it’s just four years later. There’s a reason the Transformers are redesigned. We’re trying to broaden the franchise and give it more places to go."

He's got a new lead and fresh cast to work with, including Mark Walhberg, a man who's survived a few movie apocalyptuses in his time. "Mark is really excited about it and it’s a great redesign," Bay explained. "I said that 3 was going to be my last one. Paramount was letting me do Pain & Gain and the Transformers ride was opening at Universal and it was bittersweet to think of passing it off. I wanted to set it up on a really sure footing and to bring someone else in on that, it would have been overwhelming."

Pain And Gain is out on May 3 (here's the trailer, folks), with Transformers 4 scheduled to shoot soon afterwards for a June 27, 2014 release.

FLASHMAN
Clear away the jaw dropping spectacle, and you find that he has always been surprisingly patient on character development and fast, witty dialogue - have a look at who wrote Armageddon -so 'Pain & Gain' could prove very good indeed. More

RE: Too much
L: Bobby TwoTimes I appreciate the Transformers films for what they were - my son was the perfect age for these films when they came out and they've been enjoyable enough as mindless hangover action films, but the problem is people will always struggle with the 4th film of a franchise. As far back as I can remember the 4th film is always the one where people groan whenever it's mentioned. If the 3rd and 4th aren't impeccable then people just aren't interested - take the Pirates Franchi More

RE: Reboot please!
Michael Bay needs to disappear for taking such a basic, fun concept and making it into some so totally grotesque. More

Reboot please!
Will someone please tell this '' director '' to fuck off and give this franchise to someone who knows how make a good sci fi action movie? Preferably someone who can make a Transformers movie without racist '' humour '' and toilet humour. An actual movie about the transformers themselves would be nice too instead of a two and half hour teen comedy. RE: Michael Bay's Transformer franchise
L: UTB L: NRJ1995 Okay maybe there are a hell of a lot of explosions, but what do people hoenstly expect when it comes to intergalactic robots battleing it out? enerally people don't complain about the explosion content of a Michael Bay film. Its his inability to create a film without sticking a camera up the leading lady's arsehole or include an endless stream of dick jokes that irritate people. I would gladly see a film with robots beating the shit out of each other More

L: NRJ1995 If I'm completely honest, I hear people almost on a daily basis bitching about Michael Bay's transformers films and how they are "justa ll about the explosions" and that he's a crappy director. Okay maybe there are a hell of a lot of explosions,at do people hoenstly expect when it comes to intergalactic robots battleing it outr bombs? Transformers - 3 2 Far
Admittedly the first one wasn't 100% horrible. But no-one needed the next 2 installments, and as for a 4th...... Michael Bay has talent (everyone remember The Rock!), and should probably look at something new. More
