Peter Jackson is a busy man. When he's not jetting around the globe on press duties– or finishing off The Desolation Of Smaug and There And Back Again – he's assembling the final extended cut of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey for the eventual DVD and Blu-ray release. In fact, as Ian McKellen reveals in the video below, he's already done it.
As well as letting slip that Jackson has got the Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey extended edition cut done and dusted, the much-loved knight also revealed some details on a certain scene that he loved (and wrote) that ended up on the cutting room floor (and then the extended edition, presumably).
As you'll find out from the clip at the top of this story, it sees Gandalf and a young Bilbo enjoying some time together, which begs the question... who played the young(er) Bilbo? All should be revealed come Blu-ray release day.
Then there are the other deleted scenes Jackson is looking forward to showing off when the time comes, and for more details on those – including a mention of a moment in Rivendell where the dwarves get to have some fun at the elves' expense – take a look at this clip of Peter Jackson below.
too long as it is,dont care to watch again but will get the blu ray for my daughter when it comes out and i dont wont to sit through anymore than i need to,hobbit feels a very rushed production some effects are worse than 10 years ago, only another 6 hours to go. More

Extended Or A Step Too Far
Quite a few reviews coming in that the first film is journey to nowhere and given the Hobbit was a couple of films material at most just WHAT can possibly be in an Extended Edition that will actually be worth watching. At the end of the day the reason Editors win Oscars is cos they cut out the tripe. Now directors seem enlivened to pump it back in to get some money out of the usual nerds. More

Extended extended editions
I didn't think they'd have extended editions thinking they'd have had to put EVERYTHING into the films to be able to fill out 3 films but noooo. One thing is for sure PJ L-O-V-E-S looonnnnnngggg movies. Thankfully I do to. So hopefully it's a real extended edition like the LOTRs ones with a good 30 or so mins of extra footage you want to see & not like the obviously cash grabbing Avatar Special edition extended cut. This time though I'll be saving my money for JUST the Extended editions. More

I BELIEVE it!
Great report Ali Plumb but next time proof read before publishing on your site :P I love the LOTR Extended editions & great to hear he will do the same with The Hobbit. At least Mr Jackson lets us know there will be an extended version of his films unlike some companies that don't tell you just to make more money after they've released the first dvd. More
