Star Trek Into Darkness Teaser Trailer!
'I have returned to have my vengeance.'

06 December 2012  |  Written by Helen O'Hara  |  Source: iTunes

Here is our first look at Star Trek Into Darkness, and it's safe to say that the Federation is in for a really bad day but that cinemagoers might be in for a good one. With a voiceover by Benedict Cumberbatch's character that's heavy on vengeance and really light on rainbows, this promises some dark times for the crew of the USS Enterprise.

What can we tell from this trailer? Well, if the poster showed London suffering some devastation as a result of something-or-other, this appears to show San Francisco (which is where Starfleet Headquarters and Starfleet Academy are both based) also under attack from above. And is that one of the ships of the fleet crashing into the Bay? We know from the synopsis that Starfleet is crippled in an attack here, and that there's damage to Earth; crashing the fleet into the planet would certainly accomplish both, if you were a fiendish mastermind out for revenge of some sort.

Also on display: a lot of lava, a planet with some sort of vaguely War Of The Worlds-looking red foliage, the Enterprise emerging from the sea (a hiding place?) and significant-looking shots of Alice Eve's Yeoman Rand (we think; no confirmation on that yet) screaming and Zoe Saldana's Uhura crying. What could have upset her? We also learned that everyone looks cool in a long, hooded duster.

Star Trek Into Darkness is out, of course, on May 17 next year. Let's hope phasers are set to stunning.

I hope it's Khan
Love the trailer, especially the Japanese version. I am hoping that Benedict is Khan, the way he jumps, fights, runs through windows suggest the product of late 20th Century genetic engineering (unless he's a Romulan!) I wonder if they have done the back story to his character similar to old Spock's tale of Nero in the reboot version of Star Trek? Whatever, this looks great and I can't wait to see it! More

jj is messing
i really think that japaneese clip was thrown on by JJ the master of deception to mess with our heads. its way to obvious. he would never give that kinda plot away so early. in the words of admiral akbar " its a trap " oh and ps im pretty sure Gene Rodenberry never envisioned the enterprise ever entering a planets atmosphere, never mind being submersed ?????? Great teaser but beware! You may consider the Japanese trailer a bit spoilerific. Although I can't see 'JJ' letting that bit be seen by anyone without knowing EVERYONE would see it, and every Trekker knowing what it meant. That can only mean it's a trick! Or is it! Yeah probably, but then again, maybe not... I don't think I will sleep till May 17 worrying about this, or will I? More

RE: Khan
That looks fecking epic! The final shot in the Japanese trailer literally made my jaw drop. I'm now a bot worried that the 9 min preview is going to overshadow The Hobbit when I see it next week. More

Khan
In the trailer it looks like Kirk is talking to Pike. What if Kirk is to pay for pike/Spock's decisions. It was actually them that stranded Khan on Centi-Alpha 5 (or was it 6). And the good man that Kirk thought Pike was is compromised. More

RE: Khan? Nope, the clue is in the background.
********POSSIBLE SPOILERS REGARDING SPOCK AND THE JAPANESE TRAILER************************* From that Japanese teaser it looks like they'll be killing off Spock just like in Wrath of Khan, which is a shame for two reasons. For one, I don't think two movies gives us enough of the Kirk-Spock-Bones triumvirate, which the series and films were famous for - though granted I haven't seen Into Darkness yet. It just seems that two movies of Spock is nowhere near enough. More

IMDB still lists Cumberbatch as Khan (rumoured). I don't buy it. He doesn't look or sound remotely Indian and more to the point, the events of Space Seed have not even taken place. That said, it's looking great. More

RE: Cheers for the Japanese link
Now thats a great teaser.Looks really exciting but still vague enough they dont ruin anything.I still dont think the villain is Khan but i could be proved wrong. He could very well be a different Augment like one of those seen in the Enterprise season 4 trilogy arc '' Borderland ''. OR he could be that mad scientist Dr. Roger Korby. Anyways,im really stoked for this now.Bring on next may! More

...and a nod to 'Wrath Of Khan' (just to wet nerd appetites) with the hands on glass (Japanese Trailer)...but wait....the bob-haired blonde...Rand or Carol Marcus? If the latter, another nod to 'Wrath'...could Benedict actually be Khan? For a weed, he seems to have strength and power.... More
