World War Z Trailer Invades The Web
Can Pitt stop zombies?

09 November 2012  |  Written by James White

Welcome to what has apparently been decreed Zombie Day online. Already we’ve seen the Warm Bodies trailer, Scientific American has written about a zombie-ant fungus, and now comes the first big promo for what promises to be a divisive but spectacular outing next year: World War Z.

Adapted from Max Brooks’ continent-skipping docu-style novel, Brad Pitt stars as Gerry Lane, a devoted husband and father who has also done work for the government and military.

We meet Gerry, his wife Karen (Mireille Enos) and their kids on the day when the zombie apocalypse really kicks off, in an effectively tense scene. Soon, billions are dying or have been turned into hordes of fast, slavering flesh-eaters.

Gerry is recruited to try to help deal with the disaster, and heads off to visit various flashpoints. He also appears to spend a lot of his time running from waves of zombies. Well, you would, wouldn’t you?

From the looks of this, the writers, including Damon Lindelof, Matthew Michael Carnahan and more, have turned the book’s story into more of an action film with Pitt personally facing down far more creatures than the novel’s story. And of course now the enemy dubbed 'Zack' is now frighteningly fast as well as worryingly ubiquitous.

The big question will be whether this can defeat the wave of questionable buzz about problems and re-shoots. It certainly looks big in scale at least… World War Z hits on June 21.

What did you think?
I'm all in, like the US Army at the Battle Of Yonkers!
I'm staying out of it, in one of the Redeker safe zones
Fast zombies. Romero would not approve.

I'm in!
Looks great from the trailer, good to see Mr Pitt back doing a bit of action after ponderous roles in artsy fartsy flicks. Zombie's, big battles and an apocalypse scenario. 3 of my favorite ingredients! More

looks pretty good
The majority of the trailer was CGI and explosions with very little focus on the zombies but despite that I still want too see this and lets hope there's some sort of comic relief character but I assume it will be all about Pitt and it'll have a happy ending and it' ll have little to no gore- if the film is a 12A I'll be giving it a miss. Adaptation? more like a Rape!
Seriously all the filmmakers have done is steal the name of a successful book and put it over a CGI'd zombie flick to get more bums on seats. It looks horrible and I will certainly avoid this at all costs in the cinema (but probably put it on my lovefilm list). Change the name of the movie and get someone else to do an intelligent adaptation of the book. More

Starting to intrigue.
I am a big fan of the book and was initially hesitant about this trailer but have found myself repeatedly watching it, the more i watch the more i want to see it. The idea of an epic zombie war movie on a grand scale is pretty bloody cool!!! Best to take this as being inspired by the book rather than an outright copy. More

Paris, Je Voudrais Brainnzzzz
Speedy zombies, dirty great franchise, overly reliant on CGI, an attempt to explore the science of zombiefication (or so I understand)... It isn't right to judge until it's out and we've seen it, but I have to say it's becoming increasingly difficult not to prejudge this... I took up the middle class hobby du jour and started a blog in which I suggested, nay veritably demanded, that the film-makers give this gig to Emmanuel Benbihy and do World War Z in the same way he did Paris Je T' More

World War Z trailer
It annoys me that they've gone for the running zombies when the very first thing Max Brooks makes clear in the Zombie Survival Guide is that ZOMBIES CAN'T RUN. I'll still give this a chance, but it's looking like a very shoddy adaptation. More

I've no idea on the original book or how zombies are portayed there but hell this looks cool, the zombies actually look like they are a major threat, they are fast and more importantly adaptive the way they are attacking that wall at the end, could be a real tension builder. More

Duracel Zombies.
MR Pitt said he'd stay true to the book yet he's went and made the fastest zombies i've ever scene. Their like rats or beetles, because they move so fast, it's like their possesed by demons, which then makes it another kind of film altogther. This completely baffles me, as it makes the zombies appear supernaturally evil in effort and not just primitive, seemingly mindless feeders. It reminds me of people that claim to have had near death experience's. Where by clinically deceased people ha More

RE: Curious
Looks like rubbish. How "28 days on steroids" and the title World War Z fit together is a mystery to me since only one of those titles has zombies in it. Fans of the book were not looking for a plodding adaptation of it, just something that slightly resembled it. Instead what we have are zombies attacking like a wave of "squids" in the Matrix. Absolute rubbish. At least to me Forster has once again proven that he should not be making big budget action flicks. More

Big fan of the book and most of the zombie movies and of course the Walking Dead. Shocked to see how the zombies are shown in the trailer, so overwhelming. How do you survive that? I will have to see the movie to find out. Bring it on. More

Will have to wait and see.
The stuff I have seen in relation to this flim, looks amazing and stunning, I know people have complained about the title being World War Z, and the story changed. I not fussed about this as the book would of been hard to do as a film. however I just hoped in doing so has not taken away the intrigueness of the book and relation of events that are happening around the world at the time, which what made it a great read. I am looking forward to see this film ever since it was annonuced. More

Runing or Walking?
Everything about the trailer looks quite good except for the zombies. They have GGd the hell out of it by the looks of things. The recent rewrites on this pic are also quite worrying.Personally for me I love the traditional slow walking zombies,in particular the walking dead series is amazing. The only person that did running zombies in a good way as Danny Boyle and Zach Snyder, I am Legend was Rubbish!. This is could be a good adaption
Please will everyone stop going on about the CG zombies and how they should not have called it World War Z. To adapt this book, which I too loved, word for word would not have made not much sense as a film, and would not have been exciting since it's more a series of short stories. This take gives the viewer a though line and I feel deals with the concepts of the book, which is a zombie apocalypse on a world scale and how we would deal with it in terms of nations with armies. The CG does More

L: umer_ejaz Not too shabby for a movie costing $125m. ying to be I Am Legendbly won't make as much as that movie but doesn't look to shabby f you mean by its trying to be a god awful film that bares little to no resemblance to the source material; that its taking a book that is filled with intelligent, satirical writing and turning it into what looks like just another souless, CGI action fest...then yes its trying to be exactly like I Am Legend; and sadly looks, at least from these More

Did they have to call it World War Z??
It has an undead theme, that seems to be about the only connection the film has with the book. Don't get me wrong, it looks like it could be an awesome zombie film. But when they said they were going to make a film of World War Z, I kinda thought they were going to make a film of World War Z. More

Re Glasgow
I agree with that dude Martypants. It’s great to see the city I love and George Square in a film like that. With Batman, Cloud Atlas and apparently the new Fast Five movie with that babe from Haywire, Glasgow has become a major movie location and quite right too. They can take anything. Zombies running riot on the streets. Come ahead. Do your worse lol. More

A bit of common sense required...
Theres a number of posts on here crying about the use of CGI in this upcoming film. Let me put that into perspective. WWZ deals with MILLIONS OF ZOMBIES, not a few, not a hundred or a thousand.... MILLIONS. How on earth are the producers supposed to create a sense of epic scale without the use of CGI zombies? Use your heads people. Also, the book as writen is UNFILMABLE and i think this 'take' on it (it is a take NOT verbatim) is looking very exciting indeed. Pitt doesnt put his name to rubbish More

Looks Good
Not sure is whatching what, but just watched it on a big screen and it looked impressive, CGI zombies worked well, making the point that they react like ants rather than people, climbing over each other without concern for their welfare. More

RE: World War Z Trailer Invades The Web
My rule of thumb is to see anything that Pitt is in and I'm rarely disappointed. However, the CGI "Zombies" look absolutely terrible. Awful. Awwwfffullll. Did nobody learn their lesson from I Am Legend?! A lot of great zombie moments come from recognising that these monsters used to be people, but by making them a blurring, massive wave of CGI takes away from that. Hopefully it's just a poor trailer and the rest of the film makes up for it. More

3 star trailer 2 star film?
I love the idea of these films being potentially great but how many of them really are? I'm almost in my mid-thirties and my patients are wearing thin with wasting my bucks on summer block busters that don't cut it. Maybe I'm just outside the demographic. Anyways what can you do, people in the film industry are just so much better than normal humans. Right? More

Very amusing to see George Square in Glasgow doubling for America. If it's anything like Quantum of Solace the pacing will be all over the place and lacking in any real tension. Looks like it might be a hoot though... More

Like many I am a big fan of the book, and I accepted early on that due to the structure of the book the film would be very different. That trailer however has left me MASSIVELY underwhelmed. The CGI zombies look awful, painfully reminding me of the annoying creatures in I Am Legend, It might surprise me, but Its looking to be the film you'd expect from the man who gave us Quantum of Solace.
