With first-time actors giving towering performances, a poignant score, naturalistic direction and a magic-hour glow, Beasts Of The Southern Wild is unlike anything else you'll see this year. This clip features the star of the show, Quvenzhané Wallis, connecting with the local fauna as inquisitive six year-old Hushpuppy.
Beasts has been making a big noise on the festival circuit and winning plaudits for Wallis, director Benh Zeitlin and baker-turned-actor Dwight Henry. It's filled to bursting with vibrancy and life as Hushpuppy, her volatile dad and a small community of survivors cling to life in Louisiana's inhospitable Bathtub.
Beasts Of The Southern Wild is out on October 19. Expect Terrence Malick to adopt that chick whispering idea in his next film, too.
