Judd Apatow's This Is 40 Gets A Trailer
The 'sort-of-sequel' to Knocked Up

08 August 2012  |  Written by Ali Plumb

The first full trailer for Judd Apatow's 'sort-of-sequel' to Knocked Up', This Is 40, has arrived online, and with it being a green band trailer, contains no sweary words or highly sexualised highjinks.

Based around the day-to-day lives of Pete (Paul Rudd) and Debbie (Leslie Mann, Judd Apatow's real-life wife) – Katherine Heigl's sister and brother-in-law from Knocked Up – it shows the disfunctional couple as they cope with with their young children and growing into middle-age, making this a domestic affair, but not necessarily an unfunny one.

Directed by Apatow himself – who hasn't actually helmed a movie since 2009's Funny People – it definitely has the same vibe as its 2007 predecessor, but this time around it features more people playing Scrabble on the toilet and discussions about killing your spouse.

For poster proof of Rudd's bathroom-based Scrabble addiction, check out this one-sheet below.

Playing their now slightly-more-grown-up kids are Apatow's own slightly-more-grown-up kids, Maude and Iris Apatow, who from the looks of the trailer seem to be as talented as their worryingly successful parents.

Elsewhere, Megan Fox appears with her top off, Albert Brooks plays Rudd's money-grubbing dad and Jason Segel and Chris O'Dowd crop up as their comedy buddies. It's what they do.

And in case you were wondering, there's absolutely zero sign of Katherine Heigl and Seth Rogen returning for a quick cameo, which makes sense as Ms. Heigl and team Apatow haven't exactly been seeing eye to eye since Knocked Up hit cinemas five years ago.

American Apatow fans will be able to see This Is 40 come December 21, whereas us Brits will have to wait until February 14 next year.

Your Comments

The sort of sequel to Knocked Up with the characters nobody cared about from that movie. Kind of pointless. More
