Two Man Of Steel Teasers Fly Online
'You're not just anyone...'

22 July 2012  |  Written by James White

submit to reddit

If, since our description of the footage at last weekend’s Comic-Con panel, you’ve been eagerly awaiting your first proper look at material from Man Of Steel, we’d caution you to temper your expectations for this first teaser, watchable below. Because it doesn’t contain a lot of that.

What we get instead is a quiet, stylish and above all, slightly haunting little mood piece. You’d be forgiven for initially thinking it’s a promo for the new season of Deadliest Catch or whatever other peril at sea reality shows are out there, featuring a bearded Henry Cavill working a trawler. It’s intercut with shots of a young Clark Kent and some washing, as his dad Jonathan (Kevin Costner) gives him a talk about what sort of man he wants to grow up to be.

Of course, we know what sort of man he becomes – a Superman – and after making us patiently wait, we are at least rewarded with a quick look at Supes flying very, very fast.

And if you'd rather hear Russell Crowe's Jor-El giving our hero advice, there's another version of the teaser, with identical footage, but different narration also online...

It’s early days for the marketing on this one, especially since Man Of Steel doesn’t arrive until June 14 next year, but it’s at least a good idea of what the movie’s basic tone will be. Still, we’re anxious to see more, especially the likes of Crowe, Amy Adams (as Lois Lane) and Michael Shannon (as General Zod, even if director Zack Snyder refuses to confirm it).

RE: Superbeard
L: Pelle So... How does Man Of Steel shaves? o idea, but I suspect his stubble are iron filings. Looks quite good, the Jor-El voiceover is the better one and I say that as someone who doesn't dig Russell Crowe. We know what Snyder can do visually, it's really a question of what he can do beyond that. More

been waiting for them to finally film superman:the crab fisherman years and finally they've done it! seriously misses the superman theme for me and nothing really stands out even the money shot of superman flying was pretty dire. More

Love it!
Certainly the bravest version of Clark Kent I've ever seen. Yes, I know it's incredibly short and it's just a mood piece, but it's so different that it really has my attention. Can't stop watching it. More

RE: A TEASE too far
This didn't do much for me in fairness. However when he started flying (which they just can't get to look quite righ ever) and he broke the sped of sound it sounded bloody incredible in IMAX and got me a little bit exited (oooh err).   It doesn't look at all Snyder-y..which is a good thing. More

If this trend continues in a few years time a flash of a logo and a mysterious tagline will be the norm for teaser trailers. nice teaser but comic con trailer is wow!
Superman return was a homage to the Christopher reeve films. good in its own right but DC want superman to as big as success as Batman Trilogy. I can understand the apprehension with Zack Snyder at the helm and with the small teaser trailer..but. the longer action packedr trailer shown at comic con blew me away. It definitely has the Chris Nolan stamp ,it looks and feels fantastic. When this hits the mainstream or more footage shows up, people will take notice!. The same thing happen with Bat More

RE: Should be something special...
astBoy As for the music, I clocked it as FOTR straight away, but it was well used and appropriate for the Superman context. On a personal note, I'm horrified that Hans Zimmer is apparently scoring Man Of Steel. I know that nothing can ever come close to John Williams glorious score for the 1978 film, but the thought of Zimmer's horrible generic, repetitive, simplistic industrial droning doesn't fill with me with joy right now, I have to say. (Cue lots of flaming from Zimmer fans! I know More

Washing powder?
I think the best way to describe this/these trailers would be 'intriguing'. At first, it seems like a high-budget tv commercial for either washing powder or fish fingers. But by the end, it's done a good job of getting you excited. I don't know why they used LOTR music. I can't think of many other scores that are more instantly recognisable. Having said that, had they used the John Williams theme it would have been UTTERLY ridiculous. That theme was composed to fit the tone of the Christopher Re More

Hold on to ya Snyder!
I dont rate Synder at all and think 300 & watchmen are two over rated films. However, I am a HUGE nolan fan. If he can keep a lid on Snyder and keep his hands off that slow motion button in the editng suite, this should be a great reboot. But Emma Thomas has recently said that this is very much a Snyder film, so i remain only optimistic despite a good looking trailer More

L: film man aidy This should be something special. On other sites, people are bitching over the choice of music, but it fits perfectly - the last 90 seconds of 'The Bridge Of Khazad Dum' by Howard Shore from Fellowship. Comic con trailer was better though. God knows why Warner didn't run with that... sp; Comic-Con trailers are generally never made public though, are they? Can't wait for this!
After being hugely satisfied with The Dark Knight Rises, I really can't wait for this new version of Superman. The teaser trailer has wetted my appetite hugly, this does indeed look like a true re-boot and re-imagining and not just a remake. Plus Henry looks like he suits the part down to a T ( I always had faith and wasn't one of the doubters) and with Nolan involved and a supporting cast including Kevin Costner and Russell Crowe I jut know I'm gonna love it! RE: Should be something special...
This is such a brief teaser but it has got me excited. I love Superman. Above all others, he is my favourite superhero from childhood and still now. Obviously loved the Christopher Reeve era (I grew up on them) and I am one of the few to rate Returns quite highly. Even so, it was flawed and too in thrall to Reeve's films. This looks like a new interpretation. Should sit nicely alongside the slighlty rebooted Superman of the comics Cannot wait. Goosebumps. More

What a SUPER trailer (sorry)
Wow - exceeds all my expectations already. Beautiful music, great visuals, and both Costner's and Crowe's narrations are powerful, evocative and suitably inspiring. Love the glimpses of Clark as a boy, wearing a red coat around his neck like a cape - the shot of him balling his hands into fists at his hips, without showing his face, is genius. Now, Superman Returns also had a kick-ass teaser, but even this briefer one was has eclipsed it for me ... simply put: very, very excited! More
