Refreshing the crime-ridden parts of Prohibition-era America, John Dillinger didn't reach in Public Enemies, the Bondurant brothers' moonshine business is a growing concern in John Hillcoat's new thriller Lawless. At least, it is until the G-men, including Deputy Charley Rakes (Guy Pearce), turn up and try to spoil it all with their pesky Tommy guns. Here's the full rogue's gallery rustled together for the movie's new UK poster.


Adapted by Nick Cave from Matt Bondurant's account of the era The Wettest County in the World, Lawless plunges us into the ultra-violent world of Franklin County, the '30s heartland of Virginia's Bondurant brothers.

Led by Forrest (Tom Hardy) and Jack (Shia LaBeouf), they're the side of the distillery game those Jack Daniels ads don't show you - the side with the guns and the gangster played by Gary Oldman showing up and demanding a piece of the action.



Lawless

Saw it at the Edinburgh film fest, it's fine. It's a fairly traditional western set in the prohibition era. It has some nice performances from Tom Hardy and Guy Pearce, who is suitably unhinged as the villain, but it's predictable and how much you like it may depend on how much you care for Shia LaBeouf as the protagonist. Did laugh at the fact that despite being a period film, they managed to get product placements for Coke, Ford and Motorola in there. More
