Comic-Con: New Iron Man 3 Armour
Tony's new toy on display

14 July 2012  |  Written by James White

Easily one of the most – if not the most – anticipated titles landing in San Diego for Comic-Con is Iron Man 3. Though the film is currently still in production, we’re expecting director / co-writer Shane Black, co-writer Drew Pearce and star Robert Downey Jr to bring footage and plenty of audience-pleasing entertainment. Even before that happens, however, Marvel put the movie’s new armour on display in the main convention centre.

With the film drawing from elements of Warren Ellis’ Extremis comic, we’re expecting this new piece of kit to have plenty of tricks up its metallic sleeves, even more so than the Mark VII that was last seen saving Tony’s behind as he plummeted out of Stark Tower in Avengers.

And given the concept art that popped up recently, the new kit should feature some aspect of nanotechnology, though we’re not sure it’ll quite behave the way Tony hopes…

Give us your best guesses for what the new kit will do in the comments. Be sure to stick with Empire for all the news on today's Marvel panel, plus everything else going on here in San Diego...

Pottery Man??
It looks pretty ceramic to me. So maybe he should be "Partially Iron man", or just "Pottery Man"? More

It's only an upgrade we all do that when we change our cars so why would Stark not upgrade his armour? More

In the graphic move with the Extremis virus, Tony modifies his suit so it will at suit him up on thought command. The extremis virus also transfers Jarvis into Tony's head. More

Just concentrate on the plot....
They should put more effort into the story and not worry about how the suit is upgraded for each movie...and this reminds me of C3PO... More

Are you all colourblind?
Guys, it's not yellow... what's wrong with your eyes? It's either white or silver! And I reckon it looks pretty slick! More

While it's certainly nice that their going for something different- this just looks TERRIBLE. Way too much yellow, that looks pale and bland even when used in small increments. Hopefully, this is just a prototype version of the Extremes armor and wont be used during the entire film. More

What possible reason within the story would make him recolour his armour? Not only that, but that looks kinda nasty. More

hmmm
Looks more like Shepards armour from the Mass Effect games that it does Iron Man's usual kind of look. But since this film is written and directed by Shane Black, who the hell cares. More
