Skyfall Teaser Trailer Arrives
Our initial reaction to 007's return

21 May 2012  |  Written by Ali Plumb

submit to reddit

The first footage of the first James Bond film in four years, Skyfall, was unveiled on BBC1 this morning - Eon initially eschewing this new-fangled internet business in favour for a cup of morning tea with Auntie - and has now blasted onto the web.

Our first thoughts? Wow. This is what we're talking about. Guns, explosions, droll banter, dazzling locations, careering tube trains, more guns, and not even a whiff of a complex scheme to mess with Bolivia's water supply.

Instead there's action - lots of it - and a first glimpse of Sam Mendes' big bad Silva, Javier Bardem, caught in silhouette walking away from a blazing inferno. Give us your reactions in the usual place, then check back here later for a full blow-by-blow of the trailer.

Skyfall's plot may be divorced from Quantum's foul shenanigans but clearly Bond's fractured psyche, a major throughline of Casino Royale and Quantum Of Solace, is still playing into things in a major way.

If you watched Homeland lately you'll know that espionage and psychology don't usually mix, so we're assuming this word association game is something of a last chance saloon for 007. It's also a neat way to introduce us to the mysterious 'Skyfall', a term Bond is clearly no stranger to ("Skyfall?" asks the shrink / interrogator. "Done," retorts 007).

Skyfall
is out on October 26. To double the tease, check out the first poster here. To triple it, get hold of the latest issue of Empire, replete with Skyfall goodness and a report from the film's set.

In another interesting news snippet, the full Bond collection - Bond 50 - will be released on Blu-ray on September 24.

and that... is how you do THAT!
Craig looks awesome - scary and lithe and ready for a fight. love all the visuals and the fact that theres a good 'bleakness' to it. but i agree 100% with those that need to hear the Bond theme during the movie. It is an integral part of the movies and should not be side lined by some shite 'modern' version. They tried that with one of the Brosnan ones (think it was by Moby but I am probably wrong) and it was... HORRIBLE. I just hope to god that this is as good a movie as all us Bond fans w More

L: Rgirvan44 L: Cool Breeze Looks like another Bourne clone.Craig seems to have aged quite a bit since the last one as well. Shocked by this reaction. Where is the Bourne stuff, or are you just using it as lazy shorthand? The film seems to be shot (and by the by it looks wonderfully shot) in a classical style, in stark contrast to Bournes free form, handheld style. Not sure why Craig being older is a problem? Should we go for a 20 something Bond? Dont feed the troll More

Hell yes!
The elegance of the trailer, especially when some dude is falling down the side of the shanghai building is mesmerising. The cinematography is top notch. The Dubsteppy music malarkey was incredible too. If this is shit, it will be such a let down. P.S It seems fashionable to hate QoS, it really wasn't that bad! More

I did miss that bit but I was just teasing you with that post, you big softie. nyways - Here's hoping this flick is more like Royale and less like Quantum. Why no comments about the music? It sounds like an epic new version of the classic Bond tune, I love it! But I'm biased, I've always loved Bond music, in every form or style. This might just be the big finish to a great summer for movies. (not of the year, that would be The Hobbit of course) More

So, what exactly is new with Bond? Bond is practically immortal - and he will remain so while MGM/Columbia and Eon continue to make Bond films. And if Bond is immortal - where the heck is the fun in that? It's about time Bond retired or died and let the franchise go out gracefully. Let's promote original films that don't keep to the same formula (girls, gadgets, guns, explosions - and if you like your explosions: more explosions). Bond is irksome, tiresome and all manner of things that More

Bourne again!
Loving the trailer and is it me or did I spot a possible nod to the Bourne movies. The shot of Bond hitting the water, taken from below is very similar to the signiture Bourne moment. Regardless this is looking to me like it could be the best Bond yet, certainly a lot darker again and quite possibly the most menacing performance of 007 we have yet to encounter.
