For all he likes to stay shifty and mysterious, lurking in the shadows like some sort of filmmaking Batman, even Rian Johnson cannot resist getting his movie’s message across forever. Since the latest trend is putting out teasers for trailers, Johnson and his Looper star, Joseph Gordon Levitt, are fronting a series of snippets from the film’s first promo, leading up to the actual trailer release on Thursday. Check it out over at Apple.

The first chunk arrived yesterday and we can expect one more tomorrow before the actual trailer makes it way blinking on to the world stage.

As described by the man himself (Johnson, not Gordon-Levitt), Looper is “a gritty, grounded sci-fi action movie” that sees Gordon-Levitt’s Joe working as a hit man for a crime family. Their sneaky trick? Sending victims back in time so that killers like Joe can off them where the bodies can never be traced. Which works well enough for Joe, until the latest person flung back through time turns out to be… Joe himself. Or at least an older version, played by Bruce Willis. Who’s not, shall we say, best pleased at the idea of killing himself. Or being killed by himself or… That’s where the headaches start.

Given how well Johnson’s other movies, including Brick and The Brothers Bloom turned out, we’re definitely excited for this one. Keep it dialled here for other trailer teasers and get yourself on tenterhooks for the full promo on Thursday.
