Bourne Legacy Trailer Blasts Online
Welcome to the program!

08 February 2012  |  Written by Phil de Semlyen  |  Source: Apple

If it looks like a Bourne movie, moves like a Bourne movie and has Joan Allen in it, it's a Bourne movie, right? That's the theory, and with Jeremy Renner promising a similarly hyperkinetic action experience to the Greengrass/Liman films, hopes are high for The Bourne Legacy to maintain the franchise's vaunted standards.

As no-one at Treadstone likes saying, all will be revealed. If the jury's still out at this point, today's first-look trailer promises all the slugs of post-9/11 moral ambiguity and pulse-busting action we've come to expect.

The trailer picks up with a bruised and battered Aaron Cross (Renner) emerging from his black-ops training to be shepherded into the shadier ranks of the CIA. What do we learn? Well, firstly that he's an "outcome agent", and secondly that he's viewed as less of a loose cannon than his illustrious colleague: "Treadstone without the inconsistency" as one apparatchik puts it.

Presumably the first one means he does the CIA's dirty work and the second that he'll kill a man with a pencil and return the pencil to Treadstone's stationery cupboard afterwards. Beyond that, there are scant details on how close to the formula this one sticks - and we're kinda happy about that.

Just to round off a big Bourne day, there's a new one-sheet for the film too. We're not sure what all the shutter-like design work is about but it does give us the chance to make this shocking play on the word "blinding".

The Bourne Legacy will be slamming onto our screens on August 15.

Looks more like a...
... direct to video sequel that gets shunned by everyone. Who is going to want to see a bourne film without bourne in it? Not me, that's for sure. More

RE: Bourne Legacy Trailer Blasts Online
This looks like a old fashioned type action film of the B list variety. Just doesn't look to have the brutality of the original in this trailer while some of the action has a contrived and oberly complocated quality of these old B actioners. It aint Borne. They are just trading on the name. Birne had gravitas. More

I was actually refering to the refrencing of him in the trailer, which takes away from the new character. More

Looks Good
I was somewhat skeptical but after viewing the trailer I'm all in for this thriller. Do you really need Joan Allen to do a repeat performance? More

RE: Bourne Legacy Trailer Blasts Online
Where's my shaky-cam dammit!? ;)] Being serious though ... I wasn't exactly blown away with this trailer but that's probably because my expectations were set so high from the first three Bourne films. Disappointed or not, I'm such a massive Bourne fan that there is no way I'm not going to watch this as soon as it's released! Can't wait! More

Great cast
Nice look that's very consistent with the series...I'll keep an open mind because Tony Gilroy's been on board since day 1 of this franchise...so it's in very good hands. More

Blind design
Isn't that design more to do with a typical document that has been heavily redacted? i.e censored leaving only the words deemed less important? sorry if I'm stating the obvious...gonna watch the trailer now :-) Cheers More

RE: Not restricted to those confined to hell.
Just dont know about this.It seems to be just a Bourne movie with yet another bloke with the same skills as Damons character. In other words, same old same old. More

RE: Not restricted to those confined to hell.
Very scant detail on show but I'll probably watch some more of this type of thing. Plot though? Guy gets chased and kills people with household objects, etc = 70% More

Certainly puts the tease in teaser trailer. Will have to see how this pans out. More

RE: The longer arc?
I'll be open minded about it. Liked the first two Bourne films, found the 3rd one telled off abit. The trailer backing "horn blower" soundtrack is getting abit tiredsome, especially as I feel I have heard it on 95% of trailers released these past two years. More

RE: The longer arc?
Very little use of the old shaky-cam there. Doesn't quite look like a Bourne film, even though it isn't anyway. More

RE: The longer arc?
I always enjoy movies where they state the new guy is much better than the old guy. Because it makes you feel like it was worthwhile following the old guy through three movies. More

RE: The longer arc?
Looks like some stock footage mixed in there. David Strathairn's character isn't appearing in this movie. The whole project still gives me a Smokey And The Bandit III vibe at this point. More

The longer arc?
OK, so as trailers go, it was not exactly stellar, but this has me wondering if perhaps there's a longer game plan here than simply churning out the next sequel. A franchise brave enough to have its main man sit one out to set up a longer arc could achieve something massive. That said, I am going to wait until the postcredits before I even think of making any judgement, as I loved the way Ultimatum brought the franchise full circle, and as endings to a trilogy go, it was spot on. Just hope Legac More

Liked this trailer. Great glimpses of a stellar cast. Can't wait for a full trailer. Some okay-ish action sequences. Summer 2012 promises to give us some great movies. :) More

meh
Bourne is one of my favorite trilogys, but im not feeling this trailer. something static and rehearsed about the action in it. i know its only a teaser trailer, it just feels off. And im sure thats jeremy kyle in the poster, not jeremy renner More

RE: Plot?
I agree, but they never really give a trailer indicating the plot until about a month before the release. I suppose they could have hinted at it a little bit considering we're being introduced to a new hero. Looking forward to this now though.
