Martin Campbell Taking Over Umbra
Paul Haggis will rewrite the script

08 January 2012  |  Written by James White  |  Source: Deadline

Martin Campbell Taking Over Umbra

Paranoia-fuelled thriller Umbra has become something of a filmmaking hot potato, bouncing around from director to director, but never quite finding a home. Now its hopes are pinned on Martin Campbell, who has recruited his Casino Royale collaborator Paul Haggis to take a fresh swipe at the script.

Originally written by Steven Karczynski, the story finds a businessman receiving a mysterious package that plunges him into a massive government conspiracy that turns out to have close ties to him and his family. Because clearly, if the conspiracy was simply Amazon screwing up and delivering the wrong package, it would be an awfully dull film.

Umbra has been through the hands of at least two big names already, with Roger Donaldson attached back in 2009 and Joe Carnahan taking it on in 2010 and working on a draft with Karczynski.

Now Haggis will be applying his touch to it, and Campbell will likely be hoping it’s good enough to make us all forget Green Lantern ever happened…
