First Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters Pic
Arterton & Renner go into the woods

04 December 2011  |  Written by James White  |  Source: Entertainment Weekly

Just what sort of adults would Hansel & Gretel grow up to be like given their traumatic encounter at a witch’s gingerbread house? If Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters is to be believed, the answer is fairly screwed up, but also badass… And now the first image from the film has been released, and can be viewed below.

Witch Hunters stars Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton as the titular pair in a story that takes the traditional German folktale as its starting point and kicks into high gear with the sibling pair going on to become agents of vengeance against witches and other nasty creatures that like to prey on kids.

Directed by Dead Snow’s Tommy Wirkola and produced by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, it’s set to be a darkly funny, action-stacked look at the two characters.

“They had to murder somebody when they are kids! So it’s all about being tough,” Arterton tells Entertainment Weekly. “Jeremy and I found within the script moments where we showed the vulnerable side of them. Often in action movies, people are scared to put that in. I think it was important. Just a couple moments, tender moments, when the guard drops, then you understand.”

For more, head on over to EW’s piece on the movie. The trailer is scheduled to land on Thursday, and the film itself will be out on March 2.

Van Helsing's Kids
Underworld, also a good call. And a quasi-comedy, from the director of Dead Snow? WEIRD! More

Van Helsing's Kids
Oh Lord, this looks like a Van Helsing redux with all his fancy (aka: dumb) weapons - and that ain't good. I love the premise, let's hope it works. More
