James Remar Joins Django Unchained
Along with a batch of new castmembers

10 November 2011  |  Written by James White  |  Source: Variety

James Remar Joins Django Unchained

Believe it or not, Quentin Tarantino really isn’t finished lining up actors for Django Unchained. Though he must practically be down to one-line roles at this point, he’s added James Remar, Tom Wopat, James Russo and Todd Allen to the mix.

You likely know the story by now, but just in case… Jamie Foxx’s Django escapes from captivity and goes on a mission to get a little revenge against those who wronged him, while also hunting for his wife, Broomhilda (Kerry Washington). Along the way, he’ll deal with the likes of evil ranch/club owner Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio) and assorted characters played by Samuel L Jackson, Kurt Russell, Tom Savini, Don Johnson, Gerald McRaney and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

According to Variety, Remar and Russo have signed on to play Ace and Dicky Speck, the slave trading brothers who originally buy Django. Allen is on as plantation boss Dollar Bill, and Wopat will be Marshall Gill Tatum.

Remar, a veteran of such films as 48 Hours and The Warriors, is best known these days for his role as Dexter’s father on the serial killer drama. Wopat made his name playing Luke Duke on the original (and best) TV version The Dukes Of Hazzard. More recently, he was seen in Jonah Hex. Russo appeared in Public Enemies and Donnie Brasco, while Allen has a connection to Tarantino longer than most of the people he works with – they attended an acting class together years ago.

QT is busy getting set to start shooting in January, and the film will be out on December 26, 2012.

Remar is a great character actor. He was the baddie in 48 hours and should have won an Oscar for playing the definitive Dutch Schultz in The Cotton Club. The scariest mobster, alongside Joe Pesci in the history of movies. Russo is a great veteren too. This cast is just getting better and better. More
