Anthony LaPaglia Joins Django Unchained
He'll play a nasty Aussie

31 October 2011  |  Written by James White  |  Source: Deadline

Anthony LaPaglia Joins Django Unchained

Quentin Tarantino is rounding out the bulging ensemble cast of Django Unchained, grabbing Anthony LaPaglia to co-star as a greedy Australian slave owner.

The actor, who largely put his film career on hold to star in US TV drama Without A Trace (aside from the odd passion project such as Winter Solstice), is now looking to kick it back into gear.

And according to Deadline’s report, it appears that Joseph Gordon-Levitt is all but confirmed for the movie, as he’s listed as playing LaPaglia’s brother in the film. They’ll be a pair of nasty types who meet Jamie Foxx’s Django as they escort their most recently purchased batch of slaves to their next fight. We’re going to guess the encounter does not go well for them.

It sounds like the actor was impressed with the script despite the somewhat controversial narrative: “It’s wildly ambitious and imaginative, deals with that subject matter in a way it hasn’t been dealt with before,” LaPaglia says. “The way the cast has shaped up, it’s exciting to be involved.”

As well as Foxx, Django Unchained already includes Christoph Waltz, Leonardo DiCaprio, Samuel L Jackson, Kurt Russell, Tom Savini, Kerry Washington and Don Johnson. QT starts shooting in January.

LaPaglia, meanwhile, will next be seen in PJ Hogan’s new comedy drama, Mental.
